My practice in installation, drawing, and video explores the territory of communication - the simultaneous frailty of language and our repeated efforts to connect despite language's inefficiency and tendency toward failure. This duality of human experience particularly intrigues me - how we continually attempt to communicate, how we insistently seek connection through language, despite the fact that as often as not our attempts result in failure or misinterpretation. The frailty of human interaction is completely at the mercy of the inefficiency and insufficiency of language. Yet my art practice embraces these limitations of language, using them as a catalyst and a point of departure.

I acknowledge language's inherent inability to truly and completely bridge the basic separation and isolation of each human being from another. But I take great interest in examining our attempts, nevertheless, to leap that span. Our inevitable state of being is one of isolation and alienation, and in an attempt to alleviate this state we repetitively and desperately and continually reach out to others. We try, we flail, we flounder, we flop about again and again - sometimes we get through and sometimes we don't. Yet we are hopeful despite all odds. We set any failure aside, and try again. To me this is the basic miracle of being human, and lies at the core of my art practice.
